Position Location and Details
AMI Expeditionary Healthcare, LLC seeks is a qualified and experienced candidate for the post of Certified Midwife for its medical facility in Liberia.
Job Title: Certified Midwife
Reporting To: Head Nurse
Assignment Duration: This position is available for either full-time or part-time, for an indefinite period.
Job Summary: The Certified Midwife plays a vital role in providing comprehensive maternal and newborn healthcare services to women and their families. They are responsible for setting nursing care standards and objectives; assisting Obstetricians in labor, delivery, and postpartum care; ensuring adherence to protocols; and delivering optimal nursing care with minimal supervision.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides comprehensive antenatal care to pregnant women, including physical assessments, screening, prenatal education, etc.
- Conducts childbirth education classes to prepare expectant mothers for labor, delivery, and postpartum care.
- Must know how to utilize the partograph to monitor labor progress, detect abnormalities, and make informed decisions regarding the need for interventions.
- Performs routine newborn assessments and provides care to neonates immediately after birth.
- Provides postpartum care to mothers and newborns, including monitoring for complications, breastfeeding support, and postpartum education.
- Conducts family planning counseling and provides contraceptive services to women.
- Participates in community outreach programs to promote maternal and child health and provides education on reproductive health topics.
- Collaborates with clinicians to ensure continuity of care for mothers and babies.
- Maintains accurate medical records, including prenatal assessments, labor and delivery, and postpartum follow-up visits.
- Adheres to professional standards of practice, ethical guidelines, and regulatory requirements governing midwifery care in home country.
General Nursing Duties
- Performs all other general nursing duties and activities including administration and management of clinical procedures, operating medical equipment, monitoring patients’ treatment progress, etc.
- Delivers professional health services including in/outpatient pediatric and adult care, emergency, and critical care nursing services which adheres to the clinic’s policies.
- Performs 24/7 bedside monitoring for critical care or high dependency patients in the Critical Care Unit.
- Assesses and stabilizes patients in life-threatening emergencies such as strokes, heart attacks, etc.
- Conducts rounds with physicians and observes instructions regarding treatment alterations.
- Ensures nursing care and the treatment plan is administered in accordance with physician's instructions and in a timely manner.
- Escorts patients to doctor’s consultation office and acts as chaperone as and when required.
- Maintains and adheres to medication storage procedures and controlled substance regulations.
- Assists in transporting patients for external diagnostic procedures and referrals.
- Maintains a safe and clean environment ensuring workstation, ward areas, and patients’ rooms are hygienic and in a comfortable state.
- Ensures visiting hours are adhered to by patient’s relatives and friends and controls traffic flow.
- Maintains continuity among the nursing team by ensuring proper hand over between shifts.
- Maintains a proper documentation and filing system and ensures patients medical records are securely kept and accurately updated.
- Attends all trainings sessions, general staff, and nurses’ meetings as required.
- Adheres to the national nursing regulations and always maintains a valid and up to date practice license.
- Assists the billing department with appropriate information needed to process patient’s payments or requests for Guarantees of Payment as deemed necessary.
- Performs any other duties as and when directed by Line Manager.

- Physical endurance: ability to push, pull, or lift with assistance up to 150 pounds and stand for long hours.
- Communication skills: must have very strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Comfortable working in an infectious disease hot zone.
- Knowledge in computer skills i.e. MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
Education, Experience & Another requirement:
- Updated CV and active nursing license to practice
- Current registration with the Nurses and Midwives Board of Liberia
- Required Education: State Registered Nurse, Diploma in Midwifery. BSc in Nursing is a bonus
- Certificates in Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Basic Life Support (BLS), Infection Prevention Control (IPC), training, and other relevant courses
- Years of experience needed: minimum 2 years of professional experience in nursing practice and at least 1 year in midwifery practice
- Good knowledge of midwifery/ nursing principles and techniques and their relation to medical practice
- Honest and reliable: displays a high level of integrity
- Experience working in a multi-cultural environment
- Adheres to professional standards of practice, ethical guidelines, and regulatory requirements governing midwifery care in Liberia.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
- This position requires onsite attendance. As such, the ideal candidate will adhere to the designated work schedule within Monrovia, Liberia
