About the Project/Clinic:

AMI will assist in providing staffing to VA Medical Centers across the Nation upon request. This role will be located at the VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System (VAGLAHS).

Job Summary:

The VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System (VAGLAHS) is seeking an experienced Respiratory Therapist with Polysomnography capabilities to support the Medical Service-Respiratory Section. This role is crucial to providing specialized respiratory and sleep diagnostic care to Veterans in a collaborative, mission-driven environment

Duties/Responsibilities:

Respiratory Therapy Tasks:

• Administer oxygen and inhaled medications using appropriate devices, including nitric oxide.

• Operate all forms of humidification and high-flow therapy systems.

• Assist with airway management, including intubation and mechanical ventilation.

• Perform and interpret arterial blood gas (ABG) analysis.

• Conduct chest physiotherapy (manual, Vest system) and postural drainage.

• Respond to Rapid Response Team calls and perform CPR.

• Educate patients and families on respiratory care techniques and equipment use.

Polysomnography Tasks:

• Conduct full-night and “split-night” sleep studies, including EEG, EOG, EMG, EKG, airflow, and oximetry monitoring.

• Score and interpret sleep studies manually and electronically.

• Operate and manage CPAP, APAP, and BiPAP systems.

• Maintain detailed technical logs and ensure accurate electronic documentation.

• Follow AASM protocols and collaborate with medical leadership on findings requiring immediate intervention.

The job duties are flexible and subject to change depending upon operational needs

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Must be able to multi-task, be detail-oriented, be organized and have excellent verbal and communication skills. • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work on a team.??

• Excellent communication and time management skills.?

• Must be able to successfully complete the AMI Credentialing Process.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications

Education & Experience:

Respiratory Therapist Requirements

• 2 years RT experience, 1 year critical care

• RRT certification • Completion of accredited RT program

• Active/unrestricted license to practice in California • BLS required (ACLS preferred)

• 3 professional references

Polysomnography Requirements

• 2 years of experience

• Completion of accredited sleep program

• RPSGT or RST certifications

• Active/unrestricted license to practice in California

• 3 professional references

• BLS required (ACLS preferred)
