About the Project/Clinic:

AMI will assist in providing staffing to VA Medical Centers across the Nation upon request. Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Phlebotomist to join our team. The Phlebotomist will play a crucial role in providing high-quality care to our nation’s veterans by performing blood draws, specimen collection, and processing with precision and professionalism. Experience in a hospital or clinical laboratory setting is preferred.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• The Phlebotomist shall perform essentially the same duties as those required of any medical center phlebotomist of similar experience and in similar duty assignments.

• Provide maintenance and delivery of comprehensive applicable phlebotomy services within the personnel and equipment capabilities of the clinic, and for the quality and timeliness of record preparation and reports indicated to document care and procedures given.

• Adhere to the administrative guidelines of the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations and Department of Veterans Affairs Policies. To adhere to strict safety and infection control procedures at all times. This includes quality checks and preventative maintenance on lab equipment as well as maintaining record of tests performed.

• Provide patient in-processing prior to specimen collection, including review of paperwork accompanying patients and cordial guidance and assistance; perform proper vein-puncture, finger stick procedures and other tests identified by CLIA 88 regulations as being waived, using appropriate techniques; perform set-up and completion of special test-related phlebotomy procedures utilizing appropriate techniques; adhere to laboratory safety protocols; perform phlebotomy-related administrative and clerical procedures of the Front Desk Section of the Lab; fully document all samples obtained per the laboratory’s standard operating procedures; interact with other employees and lab management to provide efficient specimen processing service to patients; perform centrifugation procedures as instructed by lab management.

• Collect blood samples using the vacutainer blood collection system or syringe with needle/butterfly when necessary. The contractor follows established procedures of correctly identifying the patient and for the appropriate specimen to be drawn for the test(s) requested. • Collect and process urine samples for both and/or timed collections for testing Correctly instructs patient in the collection and handling of the specimen to be collected.

• Access all specimens collected by entering the order number, ascertaining that all of the correct tests as ordered were drawn, entering the time of specimen collection, and affixing the computer label in the proper manner to the collection tube. Collector shall record initials and time of collection on accession label.

• Deliver collected blood and urine samples to the appropriate departments at determined times. • Answer the tube station; process and deliver samples to the specific departments.

• Responsible for keeping the Phlebotomy and accessioning area clean and neat at all times and the rotating of all supplies to ensure that all expired tubes are promptly discarded.

• Responsible for periodically conducting inventory of phlebotomy and other supplies and the restocking of new supplies upon receipt. If there are low inventories of any vacutainer tubes, needles, biohazard containers, etc., the contractor will inform the clinic management.

• Responsible for ensuring all specimens being sent to the parent facility or a local contractor. are processed and packaged for transport per the instructions of the receiving facility. This may include refrigeration, freezing, room temperature, centrifugation, preparation of manifest, etc. The job duties are flexible and subject to change depending upon operational needs

• Must be able to successfully complete the AMI Credentialing Process.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications

Education & Experience:

• Meet all licensing/certification requirements to perform as a phlebotomist.

• At least 24 months experience.

• Valid national or state recognized certification to practice as a phlebotomist.

• Must be able to work in a safe manner following all safety rules and regulations. Must work as a team member to improve safety culture and quality.

• Must be able to lift 50 pounds.

• Must be able to stand or sit for long periods of time.

• Must be able to push, pull, reach, and bend frequently.
