General Practitioner

Department: Republic of Nauru (RON)
Location: Nauru

Position Location and Details

AMI is seeking qualified and experienced candidate(s) for the post of General Practitioner (GP) for an upcoming project in the Republic of Nauru.

Reporting To: Chief Medical Officer

Assignment Duration: The project duration is between sixty to ninety days, with the possibility of renewal for a longer term. The work schedule will consist of a six-day workweek.

Job Summary: The General Practitioner (GP) will play a crucial role in advancing AMI’s ongoing collaboration with the Republic of Nauru Hospital. This role focuses on enhancing the delivery of comprehensive primary care services. The GP will be crucial in fortifying front-line healthcare, effectively managing both acute and chronic conditions, and promoting preventive health initiatives within the local community.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide high-quality, patient-centered primary care to individuals and families across all age groups.
  • Diagnose and manage a wide range of acute, chronic, and infectious diseases within the scope of general practice.
  • Deliver preventative care services, including screenings, immunizations, and health education.
  • Collaborate with local clinicians, nurses, and allied health professionals to ensure coordinated care delivery.
  • Participate in clinical outreach and community health initiatives to improve access to care.
  • Maintain accurate and timely medical records and ensure documentation complies with local and international standards.
  • Support health system strengthening by contributing to capacity-building efforts and mentoring local healthcare staff.
  • Engage in continuous professional development and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Adhere to clinical protocols, safety standards, and ethical medical practice.

Note: The job duties are flexible and subject to change depending upon operational needs.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  1. Broad clinical competence in primary care, minor procedures, and chronic disease management.
  2. Strong communication, cultural sensitivity, and adaptability in cross-cultural environments.
  3. Must be able to multi-task, be detail-oriented, be organized and have excellent verbal and communication skills.
  4. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work on a team.??
  5. Excellent communication and time management skills.?
  6. Must be able to successfully complete the AMI Credentialing Process.
  7. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications

Education & Experience:

  • Medical degree (MD or equivalent) from an accredited institution.
  • Current, unrestricted license to practice medicine.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience as a General Practitioner (exposure to underserved or international settings highly desirable)

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

  • This position requires onsite attendance. As such, the ideal candidate will adhere to the designated work schedule within Yaren, Nauru.
