AMI will be working with the Republic of Nauru to strengthen healthcare delivery, enhance operational standards, and improve the overall health and wellbeing of the local population.
Job Summary:
As part of AMI’s ongoing collaboration with the Nauru Medical Center, we are seeking a senior surgical leader to serve as Chairman of Surgery. This is a leadership role focused on overseeing the surgical department, strengthening clinical governance, and advancing surgical standards. The Chairman will work closely with local surgical teams, hospital leadership, and AMI to support quality improvement and capacity building.
Supervisory Responsibilities (If not applicable, please write N/A):
Will oversee the existing surgical department.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Provide strategic and administrative leadership for the surgical department, including general surgery, anesthesia, and perioperative services.
Evaluate and optimize departmental workflows, staffing, and operating room efficiency in collaboration with hospital leadership.
Ensure adherence to international best practices, clinical protocols, and patient safety standards in all surgical services.
Mentor and support local surgeons, surgical nurses, and trainees through guidance, case reviews, and continuing education.
Review surgical outcomes, incident reports, and quality metrics to identify opportunities for improvement.
Assist with surgical policy development, credentialing processes, and compliance with regulatory standards.
Coordinate with other department heads to promote multidisciplinary care and seamless patient handovers.
The job duties are flexible and subject to change depending upon operational needs.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Strong background in clinical governance, quality assurance, and systems improvement.
Must be able to multi-task, be detail-oriented, be organized and have excellent verbal and communication skills.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work on a team.
Excellent communication and time management skills.
Must be able to successfully complete the AMI Credentialing Process.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications
Education & Experience:
Medical degree (MD, MBBS, or equivalent) with specialization in general surgery or a surgical subspecialty.
Board certification or equivalent recognition in surgical practice.
Minimum of 7-10 years of clinical experience, with at least 3–5 years in surgical leadership, administration, or department head roles.
Additional Requirements:
