About the Project/Clinic:

AMI will be working with the Republic of Nauru to strengthen healthcare delivery, enhance operational standards, and improve the overall health and wellbeing of the local population.

Job Summary:

As part of AMI’s collaboration with the Nauru Medical Center, we are seeking a qualified and experienced Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) to lead nursing services and support the ongoing advancement of clinical care. The CNO will be responsible for elevating nursing practice standards, fostering workforce development, and driving patient-centered care across all nursing departments.

Supervisory Responsibilities (If not applicable, please write N/A):

Will oversee the daily operations of nursing/medical staff.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Provide strategic leadership and direction for all nursing and clinical support services.

• Collaborate with AMI leadership and the Ministry of Health to implement best practices and build local nursing capacity.

• Develop and enforce clinical policies, protocols, and quality assurance programs to ensure high standards of patient care.

• Mentor and support the nursing leadership team in workforce planning, performance evaluation, and professional development.

• Promote evidence-based practice and continuous quality improvement across nursing services.

• Oversee nursing education programs and in-service training to enhance skills and clinical competencies.

• Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and patient safety.

• Work closely with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to improve care coordination and outcomes.

• Participate in strategic planning and contribute to the hospital’s leadership decision-making processes.

The job duties are flexible and subject to change depending upon operational needs.

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Demonstrated experience in clinical governance, nursing education, and policy implementation.

• Must be able to multi-task, be detail-oriented, be organized and have excellent verbal and communication skills.

• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work on a team.

• Excellent communication and time management skills.

• Must be able to successfully complete the AMI Credentialing Process.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications

Education & Experience:

• Registered Nurse (RN) with a current, active license.

• Master’s degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or a related field (required).

• Minimum of 5-7 years of nursing leadership experience (experience working in international or resource-limited environments highly desirable).

• Familiarity with global health practices and culturally responsive care delivery highly desirable.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

• This position requires onsite attendance. As such, the ideal candidate will adhere to the designated work schedule within Yaren, Nauru.
