AMI will be working with the Republic of Nauru to strengthen healthcare delivery, enhance operational standards, and improve the overall health and wellbeing of the local population.
Job Summary:
As part of AMI’s partnership with the Nauru Medical Center, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Paramedic to support pre-hospital care services and emergency medical response. This role will focus on overseeing ambulance operations, mentoring local emergency medical technicians (EMTs), and ensuring safe, timely, and effective pre-hospital care delivery across the island.
Supervisory Responsibilities (If not applicable, please write N/A):
Will oversee any ambulance operations and will serve as a mentor for local EMTs.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Lead and coordinate daily operations of the ambulance and emergency medical services (EMS) team.
Respond to emergency calls and provide advanced pre-hospital care for medical, trauma, and transport cases.
Serve as a clinical and operational supervisor to local paramedics and EMTs, ensuring adherence to established protocols and safety standards.
Conduct training, simulations, and on-the-job mentorship to build local capacity and clinical competency.
Collaborate with hospital emergency department staff to ensure smooth handovers and continuity of patient care.
Maintain EMS equipment, supplies, and vehicles to ensure readiness and safety.
Assist in developing EMS protocols, documentation systems, and response plans, including mass casualty and disaster preparedness.
The job duties are flexible and subject to change depending upon operational needs.?
Required Skills/Abilities:
Strong clinical proficiency in pre-hospital emergency care, including airway management, trauma response, and advanced life support.
Must be able to multi-task, be detail-oriented, be organized and have excellent verbal and communication skills.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work on a team.
Excellent communication and time management skills.
Must be able to successfully complete the AMI Credentialing Process.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications
Education & Experience:
Certification as a licensed Paramedic (National Registry or equivalent international credential).
Minimum of 5 years of experience as a practicing paramedic, with at least 1–2 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
Experience in low-resource, rural, or international settings highly desirable.
