Position Location and Details
AMI Expeditionary Healthcare is seeking a qualified and experienced candidate for the post of Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Registered Nurse for its medical facility in Juba, South Sudan.
Reporting To: Head Nurse
Assignment Duration: This position is available part-time, for an indefinite period.
Job Summary: The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Registered Nurse shall provide specialized care to critically ill patients, ensure proper management of medical equipment, adhere to established safety protocols, offer support to families during challenging circumstances, and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality care with minimal supervision.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Provides comprehensive nursing care to neonates in the NICU, including assessment, monitoring, and implementing interventions to address their developmental needs.
Ensures the NICU environment is clean, organized, and conducive to patient care.
Collaborates with Neonatologists, Paediatricians, Respiratory Therapists, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized care plans for neonatal patients.
Maintains and adheres to medication storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations.
Responsible for all equipment in the NICU, including ventilators, incubators, monitors, and infusion pumps, etc.
Maintains the inventory checklist for NICU equipment, reports any faults, and coordinates equipment maintenance or replacements as needed.
Ensures all equipment used in patient care is sterilized and properly stored after every use.
Ensures that the NICU is always secure and maintains access control measures, including visitation of staff and family.
Demonstrates flexibility and availability to respond to the urgent needs in the NICU.
Performs all other general nursing duties and activities including administration and management of clinical procedures, operating medical equipment, monitoring patients’ treatment progress, etc.
Delivers professional health services including in/outpatient, paediatric and adult care, emergency, and critical care nursing services which adheres to the clinic’s policies.
Performs 24/7 bedside monitoring for critical care or high dependency patients in the Critical Care Unit.
Assesses and stabilizes patients in life-threatening emergencies such as strokes, heart attacks, etc.
Conducts rounds with physicians and observes instructions regarding treatment alterations.
Ensures nursing care and treatment plans are administered in accordance with physician's instructions and in a timely manner.
Escorts patients to the doctor’s consultation office and acts as chaperone as and when required.
Maintains and adheres to medication storage procedures and controlled substance regulations.
Assists in transporting patients for external diagnostic procedures and referrals.
Maintains a safe and clean environment ensuring the workstation, ward areas, and
patients’ rooms are in hygienic and in a comfortable state.
Ensures visiting hours are adhered to by patient’s relatives and friends and traffic flow is controlled.
Maintains continuity among the nursing team by ensuring proper hand over between shifts.
Maintains proper documentation and filing systems; ensures patients medical records are securely kept and accurately updated.
Attends all trainings sessions, general staff, and nurses’ meetings as required.
Adheres to the national nursing regulations and maintains a valid and up to date practice license.
Assists the billing department with appropriate information needed to process patient’s
payments or request for Guarantees of Payment as deemed necessary.
Performs any other duties as and when directed by the Company/Line Manager. The job duties are flexible and subject to change dependent upon operational needs.

Physical endurance: Able to push, pull, or lift with assistance up to 150 pounds, stand for long hours, and remain active throughout shifts.
Communication skills: must have a very strong written and verbal communication skills.
Comfortable working in an infectious disease hot zone.
Knowledge in computer skills i.e. MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
Education, Experience, & Another Requirements:
Updated CV and active nursing license to practice
Current registration with the Nurses and Midwives Board of South Sudan
Required Education: State Registered Nurse with specialization in Neonatal Intensive Care; BSc in Nursing is an added advantage
Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Basic Life Support (BLS), Paediatric Advance Life Support (PALS), Emergency Triage Assessment and Treatment (ETAT), Infection Prevention Control (IPC), Waste Management training, and other relevant courses
Years of experience needed: minimum 3 years of professional experience in nursing practice and at least 1 year in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit nursing
Possesses a profound knowledge of the South Sudan Nursing Board
Honest and reliable: displays a high level of integrity.
Experience working in a multi-cultural environment
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
This position requires onsite attendance. As such, the ideal candidate will adhere to the designated work schedule within Juba, South Sudan
