Position Location and Details
AMI Expeditionary Healthcare is seeking qualified and experienced candidate for the post of Radiographer and Sonographer for its medical facility in South Sudan.
Reporting To: Clinical Lead and Paramedic
Assignment Duration: This position is available part-time, for an indefinite period.
Job Summary: Under the direction of the physician(s), the Radiographer and Sonographer shall perform high-quality X-ray and ultrasound imaging to aid in diagnosing injuries and diseases, while maintaining patient safety, satisfaction, and records. They shall also communicate results, maintain equipment, stay current with radiology practices, and deliver quality care with minimal supervision.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Takes radiographic images of patients' bones, tissues, and organs as per physicians’ written orders, and makes a copy (film) of their skeletal structure for diagnosis and treatment.
Verifies patients' identity and reviews physicians’ orders before beginning X-ray procedures.
Ensures the X-ray machines are set at the correct radiation levels and calibrated before use.
Prepares patients and interprets test orders to determine which body parts need imaging.
Identifies and communicates abnormal patient images by alerting physicians immediately.
Communicates all X-ray reports to physicians in a timely manner, maintaining accurate turnaround time.
Explains the X-ray procedures to patients and answers their questions to lower their anxiety.
Correctly positions the patient, adjusting the imaging equipment to the specified position.
Limits patients' exposure to radiation by always placing protective lead shields on patients.
Ensures that the X-rays taken are of sound quality to prevent unnecessary repeat procedures.
Ensures quality control by checking X-ray images for clarity and retakes them if necessary.
Maintains inventory of radiology supplies by checking stock and placing orders in a timely manner.
Regularly cleans and maintains X-ray equipment to ensure smooth operation.
Ensures that the X-ray equipment is regularly serviced and in good working order. Requests maintenance, repairs, or replacement when necessary.
Promptly notifies management of damages or malfunctions of the X-ray equipment.
Maintains proper documentation and filing systems. Ensures accurate records of completed X-ray procedures and patient reports are kept securely and updated regularly.
Maintains and duly follows all Infection Prevention Control (IPC), Waste Management, and Health and Safety Regulations.
Collaborates with the clinical team to ensure the quality, safety, and highest standards of clinical governance are met in providing patient care.
Collaborates with external Radiologists to ensure external X-ray reports are received on time.
Ensures all appropriate PPE/lead protection is used while performing duties.
Ensures that a safe and clean environment is maintained, keeping the X-ray room clean and orderly.
Assists in training and orientating new Radiographers on X-ray procedures and protocols.
Conducts regular research that improves healthcare outcomes. Attends educational workshops that enhance professional and technical knowledge.
Compiles patient complaints and refers matters to the Country Manager.
Attends all in-house training, general staff, and departmental meetings as required.
Preforms diagnostic ultrasound examinations, reads, and drafts reports on findings to specialist physicians.
Calms patients and makes sure that they fully understand how the procedure works.
Ensures that repairs and replacement of treatment equipment is done in a timely manner and ensures that all consumables are in place.
Makes and keeps copies of ultrasounds, studies, and reports.
Keeps records and reports statistics on a weekly basis to the Country Manager.
Coordinates and works with members of other teams as required.
Performs any other duties as and when directed by the Company/Supervisor/Line Manager.

Must have an in-depth knowledge of human anatomy.
Must have a clear understanding of operating medical imaging equipment.
Must be willing and able to work as part of a team.
Comfortable working in an infectious disease hot zone.
Strong computer skills knowledge i.e., MS Word, eMedical systems, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
Education, Experience & Another Requirements:
Updated CV and valid license to practice
Registration with the Nuclear Safety and Radiation Protection Authority of South Sudan
Basic Life Support (BLS), Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certifications, training in IPC, and other relevant courses
Required Education: Diploma, Bachelor's or Associate Degree in Radiologic Technology, Radiography, or a related field.
A Bachelor’s Degree in Radiologic Technology with Certification in Sonography.
Years of experience: minimum 2 years professional experience as an X-ray/Radiology Technician and Sonographer
Knowledge of radiography principles and techniques and their relation to medical practice.
Experience working under risk conditions (e.g. exposure to radiation).
Must have the required medical licenses to operate in the country.
Understanding of the handling and maintenance of X-ray imaging equipment.
Experience working in a multi-cultural environment.
Honest and reliable: displays a high level of integrity.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
This position requires onsite attendance. As such, the ideal candidate will adhere to the designated work schedule within Juba, South Sudan
