MRI Technologist

Department: VA IDIQ
Location: Minneapolis, MN

We are seeking a highly skilled MRI Technologist (Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist – MRI) at the Minneapolis VA Medical Center in Minneapolis, MN to provide onsite imaging services at the Minneapolis VAMC. This role is responsible for performing high-quality MRI procedures, ensuring patient safety, and supporting diagnostic imaging operations in a clinical environment that serves our nation’s veterans. The MRI Technologist will work collaboratively with radiologists, physicians, and healthcare staff to deliver accurate imaging and exceptional patient care in accordance with VA standards and nationally recognized best practices.

Duties/Responsibilities:
Clinical Duties:

• Perform MRI examinations in accordance with physician orders and established imaging protocols
• Prepare and position patients for imaging procedures while ensuring comfort and safety
• Operate MRI equipment, including selecting appropriate imaging parameters and techniques
• Evaluate image quality to ensure diagnostic standards are met
• Identify and address artifacts or technical issues impacting image quality
• Screen patients for MRI safety risks (e.g., implants, contraindications)
• Adhere to all MRI safety procedures and infection control standards

Patient Care
• Explain procedures clearly and compassionately to patients
• Monitor patients throughout imaging procedures for safety and comfort
• Respond appropriately to medical emergencies and patient needs
• Maintain patient dignity, privacy, and confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA and VA regulations

Administrative & Documentation
• Accurately document imaging procedures in the electronic health record (CPRS)
• Maintain detailed and compliant patient records
• Complete required quality assurance and performance improvement documentation
• Participate in workflow coordination and communication with clinical teams

Collaboration & Compliance
• Work closely with radiologists and clinical staff to support diagnostic interpretation
• Follow all VA policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements
• Participate in quality management and patient safety initiatives
• Report incidents, safety concerns, or adverse events in accordance with VA protocols

The job duties are flexible and subject to change depending upon operational needs

Required Skills/Abilities:
• Must be able to multi-task, be detail-oriented, be organized and have excellent verbal and communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work on a team.??
• Excellent communication and time management skills.?
• Must be able to successfully complete the AMI Credentialing Process.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications
• Strong technical proficiency in MRI imaging procedures
• Ability to operate and troubleshoot MRI equipment


Education & Experience:
• Current/active MRI certification through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (AART)
• Minimum 1 year of experience
• Current/active license to practice
• Completion of a Radiologic Technology program from an accredited institution
• Current/active BLS certification
