Psychiatrist

Department: VA IDIQ
Location: Houston, TX

AMI is seeking skilled and dedicated Psychiatrists to help provide comprehensive mental health care services in both inpatient and outpatient settings. This role includes diagnosis, treatment planning, medication management, and ongoing patient care in accordance with established clinical standards and regulatory requirements. The Psychiatrist works collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to ensure high-quality, patient-centered care to veterans at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center and surrounding outpatient clinics in the Houston, TX area.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Clinical Duties

  • Provide direct psychiatric care to patients, including evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of mental health conditions
  • Develop, implement, and manage individualized treatment plans
  • Conduct psychiatric assessments for new and existing patients
  • Provide medication management in accordance with established policies and procedures
  • Deliver care to both inpatient and outpatient populations, including severely mentally ill patients
  • Perform patient admissions, discharges, and transfers as needed
  • Provide follow-up care and ensure continuity of treatment post-discharge
  • Complete all required medical record documentation accurately and timely

Patient Care & Operations

  • Manage a daily caseload (typically 6–12 patients per day depending on appointment length)
  • Ensure patients are seen within required timeframes and in accordance with care standards
  • Collaborate with mental health staff and interdisciplinary teams
  • Participate in peer reviews, case reviews, and quality assurance activities
  • Communicate test results and care plans effectively with patients and care teams

Administrative & Compliance

  • Maintain compliance with all applicable regulations, including HIPAA, privacy laws, and VA policies
  • Document care in the electronic health record (EHR) system per established guidelines
  • Participate in quality improvement meetings and organizational initiatives
  • Adhere to established standards of care consistent with national guidelines and accrediting bodies
  • Ensure confidentiality and proper handling of patient information

The job duties are flexible and subject to change depending upon operational needs

Requirements:

  • MD or DO degree
  • Board Certification
  • Active, unrestricted license to practice in Texas
  • Valid DEA registration
  • Valid National Provider Identifier (NPI)
  • Current/active BLS certification (ACLS may be required depending on setting)
  • Must be able to multi-task, be detail-oriented, be organized and have excellent verbal and communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work on a team.?

  • Must be able to successfully complete the AMI Credentialing Process.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications
  • Must be able to work in a safe manner following all safety rules and regulations. Must work as a team member to improve safety culture and quality.?

  • ?Must be able to lift 50 pounds.?
  • ?Must be able to stand or sit for long periods of time.
