Dental Hygienist

Department: MQSII (Luke)
Location: Oak Harbor, WA

AMI is seeking a dedicated and professional Dental Hygienist to provide comprehensive preventive and therapeutic dental care at the Naval Health Clinic Oak Harbor Dental Department. This position focuses on patient education, oral health maintenance, and disease prevention, supporting the Navy’s mission to ensure the oral readiness and overall health of service members and their families. The Dental Hygienist will work collaboratively with dental officers and clinical staff to deliver high-quality care in compliance with Navy, federal, and professional dental standards.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Examine patient’s oral cavity, including the mouth, throat, and pharynx, and record conditions of teeth and surrounding tissues. Refer patients to a dentist for abnormalities such as cavities, defective fillings, suspicious growths, or periodontal disease.
  • Apply desensitizing and other topical agents to treat abnormalities, including caries prevention, gingivitis, and oral ulceration.
  • Instruct patients—individually and in groups—on proper oral hygiene using materials such as teeth models, displays, slides, toothbrushes, dental floss, disclosing tablets, and mirrors. Demonstrate correct brushing and flossing techniques and explain the relationship between diet and tooth decay.
  • Take impressions and construct sports/safety mouth guards and soft night guards for vital bleaching.
  • Polish restorations and apply pit and fissure sealants.
  • Provide chairside dental assisting when directed by the Officer-In-Charge of the dental clinic.
  • Record patients treated, inspect and maintain instruments to ensure proper working condition, and clean, sharpen, and sterilize instruments as required.
  • Manage patient workload, readiness, and scheduling by utilizing the Corporate Dental Application to enter patient-specific workload data, readiness status, and to schedule appointments.

The job duties are flexible and subject to change depending upon operational needs

Requirements:

  • Successful completion of a Dental Hygiene Program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) of the American Dental Association (ADA).
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Dental Hygiene, depending on program structure.
  • Certified in Radiography required
  • BLS certification required
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience as a Dental Hygienist.
  • Active, unrestricted license to practice Dental Hygiene in a U.S. jurisdiction.
  • Must be able to multi-task, be detail-oriented, be organized and have excellent verbal and communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work on a team.??

  • Must be able to successfully complete the AMI Credentialing Process.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications
  • Must be able to work in a safe manner following all safety rules and regulations. Must work as a team member to improve safety culture and quality.?
