Position Location and Details

AMI Expeditionary Healthcare, LLC is seeking a qualified and experienced candidate for the post of Registered Nurse for its medical facility in Liberia.

Job Title: Registered Nurse

Report To: Head Nurse

Assignment Duration: This position is available full-time, for an indefinite period.

Job Summary: The Registered Nurse is responsible for assisting in setting the nursing care standards and objectives for the organization, which includes assisting physicians in providing treatment to patients in various medical settings, delivering high-quality nursing care with minimal supervision, etc.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs all general nursing duties and activities including administration and management of clinical procedures, operating medical equipment, monitoring patients’ treatment progress, etc.
  • Delivers professional health services including in/outpatient pediatric and adult care, emergency, and critical care nursing services which adheres to the clinic’s policies and procedures.
  • Performs 24/7 bedside monitoring for critical care or high dependency patients in the Critical Care Unit.
  • Assesses and stabilizes patients in life-threatening emergencies such as strokes, heart attacks, etc.
  • Obtains detailed medical history and provides comprehensive initial patient assessments.
  • Conducts rounds with physicians and observes instructions regarding treatment or care alterations.
  • Ensures the nursing care and treatment plan is administered in accordance with physician's instructions and in a timely manner.
  • Ensures efficient patient flow and communication and obtains accurate patient data.
  • Escorts patients to the doctor’s consultation office and acts as chaperone as and when required.
  • Ensures operational readiness of resuscitative and emergency equipment, PPE, etc.
  • Responsible for sterilizing and maintaining all surgical instruments/equipment after use.
  • Maintains and adheres to medication storage procedures and controlled substance regulations.
  • Assists patients with activities of daily living, including physical and psychological support.
  • Directs patients and caregivers on how to take medication and performs minor in-home therapy for recovery.
  • Assists in transporting patients for external diagnostic procedures and referrals.
  • Maintains and complies with all Infection Prevention Control (IPC), Waste Management, and Health and Safety regulations.

  • Maintains a safe and clean environment ensuring workstation, ward areas, and patients’ rooms are in a hygienic and comfortable state.
  • Ensures visiting hours are adhered to by patient’s relatives and friends and controls traffic flow.

  • Maintains continuity among the nursing team by ensuring proper handover between shifts.
  • Maintains proper documentation and filing systems and ensures patients medical records are securely kept and accurately updated.

  • Maintains the nursing supplies inventory and reports to the Head Nurse for refill in a timely manner.
  • Attends all trainings sessions, general staff, and nurses’ meetings as required.

  • Adheres to the national nursing regulations and always maintains a valid and up to date practice license.
  • Assists the billing department with the appropriate information needed to process patients’ payments or requests for Guarantee of Payment as deemed necessary.

  • The employee will perform additional duties as assigned by the Company or Line Manager to meet changing operational requirements.

Required skills and abilities:

  • Emotional stability: is patient and able to give the best care under stressful circumstances.
  • Excellent bedside manner: must have very good clinical skills and an excellent bedside manner.
  • Mum's the word: maintains strict confidentiality concerning health records and information.
  • Time management: can multi-task without error and has good time management skills.
  • Physical endurance: ability to push, pull, or lift with assistance up to 150 pounds and stand for long hours.
  • Communication skills: must have very strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfortable working in an infectious disease hot zone.
  • Knowledge in computer skills i.e. MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.

Education, Experience & Other requirements:

  • Updated CV and active nursing license to practice
  • Current registration with the Nurses and Midwifery Board of Liberia
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing required.
  • Candidate(s) must hold certificates and demonstrate skills in Advanced Cardiac Life Support
  • (ACLS), Basic Life Support (BLS), and IPC, and complete all other required training courses.
  • Candidate(s) must have a minimum of two (2) years of professional nursing experience.
  • Candidates(s) must have a profound knowledge of the Liberia Nursing and Midwifery Board.
  • Candidate(s) must have a good knowledge of nursing principles and techniques and their relation to medical practice
  • Candidate(s) must demonstrate honesty, reliability, and strong integrity.
  • Candidate(s) must have experience working in a multi-cultural environment.

Additional Requirements:

  • Supports and performs all required duties at the Visa Immigration Medical Examination department as and when required, and strictly follows and complies with all guidelines.

  • Performs reception duties in the absence of a Receptionist after hours, including answering the telephone, calling insurance, filling patient forms, etc.

  • As part of the AMI team, additional responsibilities may be required to maintain the provision of top-quality care to our patients and fostering teamwork within our organization. While our job description offers guidance, it may not encompass all duties associated with the role.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

  • This position requires onsite attendance. As such, the ideal candidate will adhere to the designated work schedule within Monrovia, Liberia
