Registered Nurse - El Paso, TX

INTRODUCTION

AMI Expeditionary Healthcare has a federal contract to hire contracted medical staff to work along the southwest border of the United States. Contracted medical staff work to provide health care services for persons of all ages, to include infants, children, adults, and pregnant women.

MISSION

The federal contract employs a family medicine model to provide frontline medical care. This model provides a team of medical professionals comprised of physicians, advanced practice providers (e.g., physicians assistants, nurse practitioners) and support staff (e.g., Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurses, Paramedics, EMTs, Certified Medical/Nursing Assistants). These contracted medical teams provide basic assessment and medical treatment, to include emergency care as needed. The federal contract is committed to ensuring a system of care that is ethical, responsible, and accountable.

Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse be part of a dynamic team. The RN will perform basic screening triage of new arrivals and shelter residents to ensure their healthcare needs are addressed. The RN will provide vital support in assessing medical concerns, answering resident clinical questions, and work with the case management team to coordinate and track appropriate care. Their compassion, clinical skills, and cultural awareness will contribute to the overall well-being of residents on arrival and while in the shelter.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Performs triage, while considering both physical and psychosocial elements.
  • Provide complete, succinct and accurate SBAR communication to Medical Director, Program Manager and Case Management, as appropriate for medical issues of residents.
  • Records interactions including screening, education, and monitoring of health care appointments
  • Appropriately monitor the distribution of over the counter (OTC) medications
  • Collaborate with procurement to ensure there are adequate OTC medications for population, this includes daily counts of OTC and durable medical goods.
  • Ensure the safe and secure storage of OTCs and durable medical goods
  • Collaborate with case management team to track and monitor any medical concerns, appointments and or educational needs of residents.
  • Appropriately report suspected abuse or mental health concerns to case management and ensures there is appropriate reporting to agencies and clinical follow-up
  • Supports resident case management and medical education plan, as prescribed by physician. Teaches patients and significant others how to manage their illness/injury, by explaining: post-treatment home care needs, diet/nutrition/exercise programs, self-administration of medication and rehabilitation, as well as insuring case management referral has been made to other healthcare professionals for follow-up treatment
  • Displays professionalism while completing multiple urgent tasks in a timely manner
  • Records all care information concisely, accurately and completely, in a timely manner, in the appropriate format and on the appropriate forms
  • Work with Medical Director and AMI CNO to establish all infectious disease protocols and maintain the standards of state and local Department of Health.
  • Provide daily monitoring of national, state, and local Department of Health and Emergency Management notifications. This may include water quality, air quality, infectious disease and “other” public health concerns
  • Follows facility and OSHA safety rules and procedures while on assignment
  • Respects cultural and religious practices of residents
  • Assist with ensuring any nutritional needs are met. This includes collaborating with the support specialist to ensure dietary allergies, nutrition or other needs are met.
  • Ensures HIPAA forms are signed and staff adhere to HIPAAU regulations
  • Punctual and dependent for assigned/confirmed shifts

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor Science in Nursing in related field with a minimum 1 years related experience
  • Active Nursing license and certifications in the state of Massachusetts.
  • Active ACLS/BLS certifications.
  • Experience working with vulnerable, diverse and mutli-age populations
  • Experience in public health, trauma informed care and infectious disease protocol implementation and maintenance
